[RELEASE] Outrun – MONTH OF AMIGA

outrun-amigacover

A few apologies. Firstly, this wasn’t the original release scheduled for Monday but unfortunately I’m not going to be able to get it done in time so I felt it better to release something than nothing. Secondly this is a day early for much the same reason, I won’t have time tomorrow to upload the album (As I mentioned in the forums). However I felt it was better to release a day early rather than a day late.

Onto the release, Outrun has already seen its Mega Drive counterpart booming into our sound systems through this project. The reproduction of the Arcade game’s music, while not perfect, was excellently handled by the in-house team at Sega. But Sega were not ruling the console roost in the mid-late 80s, which led them to licensing out their top franchises for others to port (Much like Probe ported Mortal Kombat for Midway). Klassix handled this, and it stands as a small piece of history on Sega’s semi-third party ways before the Mega Drive was released. Other Sega titles exist on the Amiga in similar butchered forms, I will find time to release Space Harrier when I have the chance.

[RELEASE] Zool 2 – MONTH OF AMIGA

zool-2-amigacover

BUMBLEBEE. NAPOLEON. Trust me.

Zool 2 was a major gameplay improvement on the original Zool. The controls were tighter, the Knuckles-like climbing system was well incorporated, and the game’s structure had been expanded. Originally designed to go on release with the new (at the time) Amiga CD32 console (The world’s first 32 bit CD based console), Gremlin unfortunately missed the deadline and Zool 2 instead got packaged with a new Amiga 1200 bundle.

The music lost the rock beats that the first one played so well, and instead focussed on the techno side of the music scene, with some tracks which rivalled SEGA’s output (others not so much). Gremlin’s music really was one of the few contenders to SEGA’s crown for amazing techno soundtracks, simply because they were consistently great. Zool 2 is no different, get it.

UPCOMING RELEASES: Monday’s release comes from an RTS style game which was almost entirely created by one French programmer using AMOS (Anybody who ever bought Easy AMOS, knows how difficult and humongous the instructions were).

[RELEASE] Alien Breed – MONTH OF AMIGA

alienb-breed-92-amigacover

Before there was Resident Evil, before there was Silent Hill…. there was the Breed.

Alien Breed was an incredible title for it’s time, built by the small British studio that would eventually find further acclaim with the Worms series, it was one of the first genuine horror titles video gaming had ever made.

The music was made by the legendary Allister Brimble, and it includes one of the most amazing title screen themes the Amiga ever showcased. GET IT NOW!

OUR RELEASE ALSO INCLUDES A BONUS TRACK – The music to a cracked copy of the game is included – a friend gave me the copy when I was a kid and I purchased the proper version recently, however felt the music was worth adding.

[RELEASE] SWIV – MONTH OF AMIGA

swiv-amigacover

The classic top-down shooter SWIV arrives in all it’s Amiga glory on 16 Bit Audiophile Project today – a game with a title track so impressive that it gave the composer a scare during the company interview (Read the information on the page for more on that). “Decimation” is indeed one of the greatest Amiga tracks, but that’s not to dampen the quality of “Mellow”.

UPCOMING RELEASES: Wednesday’s release is going to be a horror game which managed to successfully rip off one of the greatest horror movie franchises of all time without getting sued, and included one of the best title themes to an Amiga game ever.

[RELEASE] Zool – Ninja of the Nth Dimension – MONTH OF AMIGA

zool-amigacover

“Nnnnnnn-yyaaaaaaahhhh!”

Today’s release is Zool: Ninja of the Nth Dimension! He became known as the Amiga’s mascot rival to Sonic and Mario, Zool was a platforming title which solidified the Amiga as a true competitor to the mainstream systems – even if the platforming action wasn’t as refined as the competition.

One thing that was refined was the amazing soundtrack, which carved it’s own style into the overfilled soundscape of platformers. The epic Rock N’ Zool track was also utilised in Lotus Turbo Challenge as a nod to the intrepid ant.

UPCOMING RELEASES: Monday’s release is a legendary short soundtrack, for a title which allowed two players to complete the game on separate terrain simultaneously, and was designed as a spiritual successor of Tecmo’s Silkworm.

[DOUBLE RELEASE] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 & 2: The Coin-Op!

“Heroes in a half-shell! Turtle Power!

Double Trouble today from the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! An icon of the late 80s and early 90s, the Turtles reached such dizzying levels of fame that their green faces were plastered on products big and small and it didn’t take long for video games to come along. The original Turtles was released on the NES and was ported twice to the Amiga, both by Ultra and again by Probe. The version recorded here is the Probe version, I will add the Ultra version when I can.

The classic 4-Player Arcade game also made it to the Amiga with an incredibly well-made Title Screen version of the classic TV Show theme. The company that built it went out of business just prior to it’s release, however, and four tracks are still stuck inside the game disk – inaccessible without hacking. I will also grab these when I can find a way to reach them that doesn’t require emulation.

UPCOMING RELEASES: This Friday’s release kicks off the start of many legendary soundtracks to be released this month, and you’ll love it to the “Nth” degree.
