A special message from donluca

This post must be read with the following track playing in the background.

Dear followers, this it the captain speaking! :]

I want to send you a very special message today, on the last day of the 2012.
I’d like to start with some great updates mainly about the project’s staff:

Our crew has grown and I’d like to introduce you our responsible for the torrents downloads, forum member Haggar!
You’re right, we will finally have torrent downloads so you’ll be able to download entire albums without the hassle of downloading the single tracks! The torrents’ links will appear shortly in the future in each game’s forum thread. As of now, we’re using a private tracker but Haggar is working hard to export those torrents to open trackers as well, so you won’t have to register to the tracker to download the album.

Onwards, we’re going to expand the game’s download page with lots of interesting infos, like alternative names, the year the game was released, the composers of the tracks and more information and trivia about the game! The one responsible for hunting down those infos is another member of our forum, powerofrecall!

I’d like to thank our new staff members for joining us and the efforts they’ll put in their work and wish them all the best.

This is it.
This year we’ve encountered so many obstacles that tried to stop us and despite all the odds, we always managed to get through and even if you may think that now we’re good and all is set, this is not true: we’ve just started and many, many things are going to come our way in the future and God only knows what other troubles we’ll be getting into that will try to prevent us from reaching our goal.
But we won’t stop, I promise: whatever may come, we’ll keep on going, we’re never going to fall, because we are ready to fight!!

This is the special message I want to send you out: never give up, NEVER.
Always follow your dreams, fight for them, never stop chasing them whatever the cost, BELIEVE in them.

That’s it guys. Happy new year, I hope your 2013 will be glorious.

About the track:

Ready to Fight has been ripped from the Street Figher II Turbo beta for the Mega Drive. This was an early prototype which had the music programmed to push the Yamaha YM2612 chip to its limits: in fact when you play the game, the sound effects cut the music down because there weren’t enough channels available, so they overlapped during gameplay.
This is a rare gem for you guys, to thank you all for your support.
Enjoy. :]

Merry Christmas and enjoy our new release!

Hi everyone! Despite the Christmas holidays we’re still working hard here!

Today I introduce you our latest work, the Comix Zone Soundtrack!!
This soundtrack just rocks. Really. It will blow your mind, just try and listen to many of the awesome tracks of this game, you can immediately recognize that there’s a great mind at works there.

Unfortunately we had loads of issues in ripping this and I can’t guarantee 100% that this is an accurate work. We will be working on it in the future. Meanwhile you’re encouraged to download it and listen to it and if you notice something strange, just report it in the release’s thread and we will fix it asap.

With this, we’re done this year! We’re taking a break and we’ll be back with the new year with more releases, more updates, more improvements and more everything!

Keep an eye on the forums as there’ll be a new thread shortly, “To-Do List”, in which you can monitor what we’re doing and what will be up next.

In addition, our forum member Haggar has volunteered to bring us torrents downloads and he’s working on it, so keep an eye on the website to know when everything will be ready!

Also, expect a very special message to all you guys by the end of the year along with a neat surprise.

On behalf of the entire 16-bit audiophile project staff, I really want to wish you a merry Christmas and happy holidays and… stay tuned!! :]

We are ready!

Guys, I’m so excited about this that my hands are shaking while I’m writing this post.
There are incredible, huge changes in the project right now, things that will change how we work forever… in better of course.

First of all, I’d like to introduce you to the mighty Project2612.
These brave guys ripped almost EVERY SINGLE GAME in the MegaDrive/Genesis library in the .vgm format.
What is the .vgm format anyway?
It is a file with logs of the calls made to the DAC of the MegaDrive, the Yamaha YM2612 chip.
Sounds incomprehensible?
I’ll put this to you in a simpler way: the vgm file has inside the INSTRUCTIONS sent to the audio chip of the mega drive, this means that if they are reproduced on the mega drive itself, they reproduce the tracks PERFECTLY.
Dark Pulse, one of the admins of the project2612, has agreed to let the 16-bit audiophile project use their VGMs which means that we are now able to rip ANY GAME from their library.

Now, onto the next problem… to playback VGMs on the real hardware we needed proper software: those things are very hard to program as you will likely be doing it in assembly which is a painful coding language.
I was lucky to stumble upon DeadFish’s VGM_PLAY which was the right tool, the one that I needed: if you give it a list of VGMs it outputs a ROM with them, then you put the ROM on a cartridge in the mega drive et voila, le jeux sont faits, a player will show up where you can playback the tracks.
Sounds easy, huh? Well, that was the most difficult part as the software had bugs that made the vgm play faster or slower as intended.
So I contacted Michael, the genius who’s behind the VGM_PLAY software, and through an exceptional effort and endless tests he managed to fix it and now we have everything ready.

I really, really want to give a big thank you to both Dark Pulse and Michael: without you guys we would be in a tragical situation and would not be able to reach our goal in its entirety.
And to everyone who’s reading this post: if you have not joined the forums yet, this is the right moment to do it and comment this news to send your love to these incredible guys or at least give them a big “Thank you”.

As for us, we’ll be putting their banners on our website, you can find them at the footer of each page, so make sure to give them a look if you’re interested in their work.

Also, we are now accepting requests again, so feel free to make them in the forum, just remember that we are accepting requests for MegaDrive/Genesis only!

Aaaaaaand that’s all for now! See you guys in the forums! :]

The forums got nuked

Thanks to the latest forum software update, our forum got nuked.
Thank you simple:press.

Luckily the data was not touched so everything should be there and I’ve managed to get everything up and working somehow. You may notice some wacky colors because I had to manually redo the css style of the forum theme, I really can’t do much about it.
Anyway, if you notice color combinations that make text unreadable (white on white or black on black for example), report it in the forums or drop me an email at [email protected] and I’ll give it a shot to see if I can fix that.

Again, thanks for you patience and understanding, we hope to get everything set up and working in few days and give you guys at least a new release before Christmas.

A quick update

The new equipment has arrived and I’m working on the software with the help of its programmer. We (or better, him) need to figure out some things that are not working properly and then we’ll be ready to accept requests again.

So be ready as in the next days a new release will be out (which is actually a request of one of our forum members ;-) ) with even higher quality than our previous soundtracks!
